On July 24, 2009, Warner Brothers Pictures and Dark Castle Entertainment plans to release the movie, “Orphan” nationwide. This horror movie is a fictional story of a couple who loses their unborn child and decides to adopt a 9-year-old girl, Esther, from a local orphanage. The tagline for the movie is, “There is something wrong with Esther”. Another line from the movie states, “It must be hard to love an adopted child as much as your own".The adoption community adamantly opposes the themes in this movie which suggest that orphans are 'problem children' who will bring nothing but destruction and violence to a family. This deception also brings unnecessary fear to families considering adoption.This theme is extremely offensive and hurtful to the hundreds of thousands of families who have adopted.
